Today Makuhari has been able to attract a complex development of offices, residential housing, schools and entertainment districts, including the Makuhari Messe, business and research buildings, hotels, residential housing, schools and parks, an international conference hall and facilities for promoting cultural exchange. From March 1994, people began moving into the residential area known as the Makuhari Bay Town. Also there are now over 35,000 people working at Makuhari, and when the number of visitors are added to this figure, a total of nearly 80,000 people visit Makuhari per day. Makuhari has thus entered into the second phase of its plan to become a leading international business city for the 21st century.

4. Future plans
Urban infrastructure development is being promoted to ensure that Makuhari will become one of the leading international business centers of the 21st century, where new technology and information will be produced and exchanged.
The urban renewal plan has focused on the provision of accessible transportation, urban housing, and community facilities that will promote the prosperity of the area.
Development for attracting private corporations, facilities to promote international exchange activities, and which can accommodate advanced information needs have been constructed to ensure Makuhari's future prosperity as a new international city. The redevelopment of the waterfront for mariners and other uses will contribute to making Makuhari an attractive, exciting and yet relaxing place.
